Okayama Nursing University Disaster Joint Seminar
On May 19th, we held a joint seminar attended by four
third-year nursing students and three graduate students from Okayama
Prefectural University, four students (one absent) from Harada Lab, Okayama
University, and three undergraduates and one graduate student. Our guest, Ms.
Shiori Kimura from Suzuka University of Medical Science and Health, joined us
online. After introductions, the seminar began with research presentations by
Prof. Harada, then Ms. Kimura’s talk about disaster medicine student potential,
and research introductions from our seminar students.
Notably, Kimura’s talk, based on her involvement with DMAS
Tokai branch, was impressive. The branch holds bi-monthly study groups and
seminars, all actively attended by Kimura. They engage in vibrant discussions,
fostering a learning environment. Seeing this motivated me to view their
Facebook page, where they invite experts for disaster knowledge and perform
group work and training. It made me appreciate opportunities for disaster
support learning and skill acquisition.
Through the seminar discussion, I learned about proactive
participation in activities for disaster improvement. We aim to contribute to
society by expanding our knowledge in disaster prevention and reducing sexual
violence, albeit differently, through research. We look forward to future
interactions with Kimura and Okayama Prefectural University.
